MY STORY
Somewhere along the way, I realized what lit me up the most: helping people simplify the complicated stuff and move forward with confidence.
So I took everything I knew and tried to decide “What makes me happy?”. A large part of it is contributing to something bigger than me; to look back and take pride in what we have accomplished. To say “I was part of that”.
The feedback I get most often is that I am overqualified for the job.
I have extensive experience building small start up software companies into mid-sized companies. I have worn many hats and gained an understanding of what it takes to succeed in many roles. I have been the individual contributor, burning the midnight oil as a developer, coding away to meet aggressive deadlines. I have been the Engineering Manager, Product Owner, Scrum Master, Program Manager, Data Analyst and Relationship Manager. I have had a seat at the table with the venture capitalists and the C-Suite as a VP and Sr. Director of Engineering.
The greatest value I bring to the table is my ability to gather, analyze, interpret and convey complex data to non-technical stakeholders. Clarity over complexity. I may be overqualified for the job, but I’m looking to join a company for a long-term engagement that shares my values, and provides products and services I believe in.

While I may be overqualified on paper, I am looking for something more meaningful than a title. I want to join an organization whose values align with my own and whose products and services I can genuinely believe in. I am looking for a place where I can make a lasting contribution and commit for the long term, regardless of the level of the role.
I am not interested in a position simply because I am qualified to do it. I am interested because I know I can do it well, help others succeed, and take pride in what we accomplish together.
Community Matters
I TOOK A LITTLE TIME OFF FROM THE TECH INDUSTRY
… in search of what makes me happy. I realized I’m absolutely garbage at golf and I don’t have enough money and patience to sit on a beach every day. I’m always looking for a project and I really enjoy bettering my environment and my community. That might mean teaching a tech class at the community center, installing home security cameras in my parent’s neighborhood in exchange for a casserole dish of lasagna, picking up the hiking/Jeep trail, fishing responsibly through catch and release or rebuilding a 1972 Airstream to run completely off-grid using only solar panels for power.
I recently had the opportunity to work security and infrastructure in Indo, CA at the Coachella and Stagecoach music festivals. Not my usual gig, to say the least. As I mentioned earlier, I’m willing to put in the work, regardless of the role. I got to know this outstanding crew, setting up barriers, protecting artists and patrons, working ingress and egress for all of the traffic, crews, police, EMTs, organizers and yes, partiers. The people watching was crazy and the crew and I made sure they could enjoy themselves safely.
At 6′ 3″, I’m no slouch. My Uso (Samoan Brother) – Big Anthony’s arms are bigger than my legs. He’s a good guy to have on your side. 🙂
Working in Education
MY TIME WORKING IN THE PHOENIX UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT
I spent a year teaching for the Phoenix Union High School District. Phoenix is an mixed group of races, cultures, values and economic hardships. I wanted to gain some insight into the challenges the students, parents, teachers, administrators, and government officials face at the lowest level.
I grew up in a military family that was required to move every two years. Housing, food, clothing, community and support were always available. It was challenging, but we were able to experience people and cultures all over the world. I was lucky enough to be exposed to some incredible people and places and learned to accept and appreciate the differences of those around me. I developed skills that only the “new kid” in school every two years can learn. I hope I was able share some of these lessons with the kids I worked with every day.
Most of my time was spent in English Learning Development in some of the poorest neighborhoods in Phoenix. Many of the kids come to school to be fed and have a safe place to stay while their parents are trying to earn a living. I worked with high school students, mostly Juniors, with reading levels as low as second grade.
It is disheartening, but I believe I made a positive impact. Teaching is a challenge and I have come to appreciate those who choose that profession.
